Brief Achievements
Crop pest advisories and training to various grape growers and stakeholders in Maharashtra were given apart from actively involved in the process of label claim sanction to various pesticides for the smooth trade of grapes for export to foreign countries like European Union.
Key to families of Pentatomoidea, subfamilies of Pentatomidae, key to genera and tribes of Pentatominae and key to genera of Asopinae, Podopinae and Phyllocephalinae of India are prepared.
A checklist for 164 species belonging to 86 genera of Pentatomidae of India was published along with the details of all the localities in India, from where they have recorded. This checklist and identification keys developed for the fauna of Pentatomidae are the first of this kind after the monumental work by Distant, 1902, 1908 and 1918; Kirkaldy, 1909), which are obsolete.
Redescribed Asopine predators like Amyotea malabarica (Fabricius) Eocantheocna concinna (Walker) (found to be promising biocontrol agent for Lepidopteran looper pests of Tea plantations) and Eocanthecona furcellata (Wolff) and phytophagous species like Dardjilingia nigriventris Yang, 1936 (recorded from Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur for the first time), Neojurtina typica Distant (genus is recorded for the first time for India) and the Natalicoline bug, Empysarus depressus Martin.
The fruitfly species Bactrocera (Bactrocera) syzygii Tsuruta and White (Diptera: Tephritidae) was recorded for the first time from India.
Three new species such as Brachycoris tralucidus Salini, Acrozangis dakhinae Salini and Schmidt and Halys mudigerensis Salini and designated neotype for Acrozangis semiprasina Breddin and lectotype for A. antica (Vollenhoven).
An improvised technique for the better inflation of phallus in Pentatomidae is developed.
Two genera Halys Fabricius and Acrozangis Breddin revised from India.
