Brief Achievements
In total 123 species/isolates of entomopathogenic nematodes (EPNs) were isolated from different agro climatic zones of India. Several EPNs were reported as new records to India viz., Heterorhabditis pakistanense, H. taysearae, one species of Steinernema huense and S. cholashanense. Created National repository of EPNs and is enriched with 123 live EPNs, these nematodes have immense value for biological control economically important insect pests. Successfully developed a cost effective storage technique for the EPNs. Identified many cold and heat tolerant strains/species of EPNs. Low cost rearing technique for the mass production of wax moth, Galleria mellonella was developed. First time EPN based wettable powder formulation technology was developed with self-life 12 months and commercialized various private companies and also government organizations. Efficacy of several EPNs was evaluated against root grubs in arecanut, sugarcane, ground nut, turmeric, banana, and apple and ash weevil through AICRP on Biological control centers. Overall, these experiments suggest that H. indica NBAIIH38 found to be a promising biocontrol agent against root grubs and S. carpocapsae against brinjal ash weevil grubs.
